Specialty: High-altitude trek able pass
Indrahar Pass is one of the most beautiful and popular treks in Dhauladhar Mountain range of outer Himalayas. The climb to the pass is most difficult but once you reach the top of the pass you have the most amazing view of the high Himalayan peaks of Pir Panjal range of central Himalayas on one side and the vast Kangra valley on the other. During pre monsoon period (April to June) the trail to the pass is under deep compact snow and ice. During post-monsoon there is now snow on the trail and one has to negotiate narrow-rocky trail to reach the pass. After the pass the trail leads down into Chamba valley and we reach one of the most remote tribal village of Kuwari in Chamba valley.
Day 1: McLeodganj (5,865 ft) to Triund (9,750 ft) - 9 km
The trek goes through mixed forest of oak, rhododendron and deodar tress. First 2 km is a steep ascent but there is a gradual ascent after Galu Devi Temple. The last 1 kilometer is again a steep ascent through the forest which is known as 22 mode (zigzag). Triund is a flat meadow on top of a ridge. From here panoramic view of Dhauladhar range on one side and Kangra valley on other is a memorable sight.
Day 2: Triund to Laka Got (11,480 ft) - 6 km
On this day, wake up early in the morning as the view from Triund is magnificent at this time. Take a deep breath and absorb the view of mighty Dhauladhar ranges. After breakfast, start trek to Laka Got. It takes around 3 to 4 hours to reach Laka Got. The first milestone in today’s trek is Snowline Cafe, which is around 2 km from Triund and then comes Laka Got. From here, traverse a ridge to reach Laka Got. Laka Got is situated at the snout of small glacier, which is full of snow and ice in early summer, and the snow melt away during the monsoon.
Day 3: Buffer Day + Exploration Day
This is because of monsoon. From July to mid-September is the monsoon season, when up to 3,000 mm (120 inches) of rainfall can be experienced which makes Dharamshala one of the wettest places in the state. That’s why we keep one day extra for summit. On this day we will explore the nature as much as we can and try to understand Mother Nature very closely.
Day 4: Laka Got to Indrahar Pass (14,271 ft) to Laka Got - 12 km
Make sure you begin your trek early in the morning. The distance is longest today and it is also the most difficult part of the entire trek. So be mentally prepared. The total distance for this day trek is around 12 km and it takes around 6-7 hours to reach the top, i.e., Indrahar Pass and another 4 hours to come down to Laqa Pass. The route from Laqa Pass to Indrahar Pass is steep and is completely uphill. Difficulty level varies from moderate to strenuous. There is no vegetation here and terrain is mostly rocky. Overnight stay at Laka Got.
Day 5: Laka Got to McLeodganj (5,865 ft) - 16 km
Trek starts in the morning after breakfast and has your lunch at Triund. From Triund, take caution while coming down as the trail is rocky. After reaching Mcleodganj, you can either explore Mcleodganj and its nearby places such as Bhagsunath waterfalls, dalai Lama Temple, and Dal Lake.
If you are beginner kindly offload your backpack, because trekking with heavy backpack in mountains is not an easy task especially when you are carrying around 8-10 kg uphill.

The backpack cannot weigh more than 11 kg. Backpack should have waterproof cover.
Trekking shoes: There will be several slippery patches on the trail, and you will need trekking shoes with good grip. Sports shoes will not be comfortable enough.
Backpack (50-60 liter): A backpack with sturdy straps and a supporting frame. Rain cover for backpack is essential.
Two warm layers: At the campsites, especially the higher ones, the temperature after sundown will drop to around 2-6 degrees. You will need at least three warm layers (two lights layers such as fleece and woolen and one padded jacket) for this trek.
Two trek pants: One pair of pants should suffice for this trek. But you can carry one spare pair in case the first one gets wet. Wear one pair and carry one pair.
Two collared t-shirts: Carry light, full sleeved t-shirts that prevent sun burns on the neck and arms. Again, wear one and carry one.
Thermals (Optional): Those who are more susceptible to cold can carry thermals to wear at night.
